to promote diversity and inclusion through community education and programming.

The Foundation uses history and preservation as a roadmap to a brighter future; we partner with neighboring schools to support academic excellence through scholarship and mentoring; we work to strengthen the community through programs such as mental health and wellness and financial literacy; and the foundation engages the community to promote civic engagement.

Who was Dr. Ossian H. Sweet?

Born in Bartow, Florida on October 30, 1895 to Henry and Doris Sweet, Ossian traveled North and attended preparatory school and college at Wilberforce University in Xenia, Ohio. After receiving his Bachelors Degree he attended Howard University, and, in 1921, earned his Medical Degree...

 as we mark the 99th anniversary of the day when Dr. Ossian H. Sweet, his wife Gladys, brothers Henry and Otis, and cousin John Latting moved into the charming arts and crafts bungalow at the corner of Garland and Charlevoix, only to be met by a hostile mob.


OPEN HOUSE IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
