Daniel A. Baxter is a charismatic and confident public speaker who is passionate about Black History. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Political Science with a minor in Africana Studied from the University of Detroit Mercy. Also, he pursued his Master's Degree in History with a focus on the First and Second Great Migration and its impact on Urban Cities at Wayne State University.
Professionally, Daniel fulfills his role as the Chief Operating Officer, Special Projects and Absentee Voting, for the Detroit Department of Elections. Formerly the Director of Elections for the City of Detroit, he was appointed by Detroit City Clerk Janice M. Winfrey in October 2015 - a role he previously held from January 2006-August 2013.
As a child, Daniel grew up in the famous Dr. Ossian Sweet Home on Detroit's Southeast Side. His parents, William and Ruby, purchased the home in 1958. In 2004, he was instrumental in obtaining nation, state and local historical designations on the Sweet House. In 2008, he received the prestigious Education Award from Preservation Wayne for his dedication to Landmark History. In 2018, he worked with city officials to secure a $500,000 grant from the National Parks Services to restore the Sweet Home.
